What Do You Like:

As a former Reading Recovery Teacher Leader

I can honestly say I had wonderful feed-back 
from my own teaching and that of my colleagues
with the text The Bear’s Tale.  This book is 
engaging and entertaining.  The title alone is a 
great link to explain how the book is about the
tail of a bear but the story is fiction (tale).  The
illustrations are outstanding and there is just 
enough text on the page to make a strong 
teaching point or two about breaking words apart 
while not impacting the meaning of the story.

      Informational Text

Text designed to convey factual information, rather than tell or advance
a narrative. Informational text may employ techniques such as lists,
comparing/contrasting, or demonstrating cause/effect, and may be
accompanied by graphs or charts.

Many of our informational books offer a distinctive narrative nonfiction
quality, which builds on a child’s familiarity with story while introducing
content. This transition text supports a student without total immersion
in the demands of expository prose. The higher level vocabulary and
exquisite illustrations and photos make our BYL books very special.
