Fountas and Pinnel Level BC

Diversity

Whether we speak of diversity or inclusion, our goal is the same -- to offer stories that expand the world of children through characters who are similar to and different from the reader.  We want to introduce children to people and groups and cultures they may be unfamiliar with to help them recognize the similarities and appreciate the differences.

Our stories reflect differences in skin color, gender roles, life styles, customs, ethnic, family, and tribal practices.  In addition, we have included some fables and legends in the packages as insight to a range of cultures.

We want to give children something to think about.   In many of our books, messages of value reveal depth to the stories.  We all have much to learn from each other.  The best time to start is when children are young.

We have organized the books in these packages by Fountas and Pinnell levels, so they generally cover kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 for Books for Young Learners, and higher for Meet the Author and Author at Work, which are also included in package Diversity-B.

For other opportunities to explore diversity, we encourage you to review the theme packages called Traditional Literature (Legends, Fables, Fairytales, Folklore).
