                         KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Isoke Titilayo Nia
has been an educator for over twenty-five years.  The first nine of those years were spent in independent schools for children of African descent.  During this tenure she taught grades three through eleven.  For thirteen years, Isoke was the Director of Research and Development at The Reading/Writing Project, Teachers College, Columbia University.

In September of 2001, Isoke founded All Write Literacy Consultants, Inc.  Through this consulting organization Isoke and a select group of experienced educators travel throughout the United States and abroad, learning, and sharing that learning with others who are involved in Literacy Instruction.

Isoke Nia is also a writer of short stories and along with a collection of her stories is close to completing a book tentatively entitled, Digging Deep: The Study of Genre in the Process Classroom.

Janet Wong (www.janetwong.com) is a graduate of Yale Law School who gave up the practice of law to become a children's author.  She has written 18 books including You Have To Write, Twist: Yoga Poems, and The Dumpster Diver.  Her career has been featured on several television programs including the Oprah Winfrey show, and is discussed in her Meet the Author biography, Before It Wriggles Away, in which she outlines her approach to writing--a quick, stress-free, "just-do-it" approach that emphasizes writing about family and personal experiences.

   Wong held March 21-23 2007

Ms. Wong has been honored with the IRA Celebrate Literacy award and her appointment to two terms on the NCTE Excellence in Poetry committee. She lives with her husband and son in Princeton, NJ.

Mitch Weiss and Martha Hamilton have been telling tales together as 'Beauty & the Beast Storytellers' since 1980. This husband and wife team leaves it up to audiences to decide who is the Beauty and who the Beast. Renowned for their work in teaching the art of storytelling, they are also award-winning authors of numerous books.  Children Tell Stories: Teaching and Using Storytelling in the Classroom is considered a storytelling classic.  Mitch and Martha, who live in Ithaca, New York, have traveled as far as Taiwan and Hong Kong to perform and teach others to tell and have completed numerous tours of International Schools around the world.  For more information see their Web site: www.beautyandthebeaststorytellers.com
