                                                                                    CUSTOMIZED INSERVICE

What are you doing on YOUR inservice days?

Thank you for your expressed interest in our school development
inservice opportunities.

Your school or district can arrange for one, two, or three days
of inservice as reflected below:

Two Days on Coaching NEW! - Coaching: Collaborative Learning
for Quality Teaching
is designed for coaches and their district and school-based
administrators. This experience is most valuable when these key players attend
together. Attendees learn about: Coaching Seminar

A Day on Reading - The focus of this day is on reading process, assessing
and evaluating reading, and planning for teaching.  Running Records are
investigated at the level appropriate for the group.

A Day on Writing - The focus of this day is on writing process, assessing
and evaluating writing, and planning for teaching.  Writing samples are
utilized as an assessment tool that informs teachers about what the child
can control and what the child next needs to learn.

A Day on Organizing for Learning - The focus of this day is on classroom
management and organization, and on planning for teaching.  Planning the
daily schedule, deciding on groups, determining the approach, utilizing daily
plans with students, and protecting time for teacher observation are some of
the topics covered on this inservice day.

Two Days on Creating an Instructional Resource Room - The instructional
resource room is a centrally located area that houses all of a school's
instructional reading materials, including all books, enlarged texts, and
audiotapes previously kept in individual classrooms. This two-day
inservice helps teachers plan the organization of the resource room, learn
the fundamentals of leveling books, and learn to select books for instructional
purposes. Creating an Instruction Resource Room

Things to consider about inservice:

Who leads the sessions?  The staff you will work with at inservice are
outstanding professional educators.  As coordinators in The Learning Network®
or facilitators in our summer institutes, they are actively involved in teacher
training and school development throughout the school year.  This dynamic
group is continually engaged in developing their own understandings as well
as further developing their skillfulness in meeting the needs of their adult learners.

Dates:  Please provide the dates you are considering so we can check
availability of our facilitators.

Times:  A day of inservice takes place from 9:00am-3:00pm (or your regular
school hours).

Detailed agenda:  Please note that each inservice has evolved from the work
we do in The Learning Network® and in the summer institute, Literacy Learning
in the Classroom.  We start with a detailed plan for “A Day on Reading,”
“A Day on Writing,” and “A Day on Organization and Management.”  The
agenda is adjusted prior to the inservice and during the inservice based on the
understandings and skills of the participants.  At each inservice we expect
participants to bring and use student work.

Audience:  The inservice provided could be focused to meet the needs of
primary grade teachers, upper elementary teachers, and/or middle school teachers.

Important:
One facilitator will be assigned for a group of up to 35 attendees.
For any number above 35 but less than 70 we would need to bring in a second
facilitator.
(see sliding scale below:)

1-35                  one facilitator needed

36-70              two facilitators needed

71-105              three facilitators needed

and so on ……

Cost:  The fee for each facilitator delivering the inservice is $1,750.00 per
day, plus travel expenses. Expenses for each facilitator include airfare, meals,
and mileage for transportation, and hotel accommodations.  Please advise
accommodation and transportation arrangements from the recommended airport.
We will charge you the regular per diem rate for meals ($30 for a workday).
Following the completion of each inservice, we will send you an invoice for the
professional fee and the travel expenses.

(Please note that if your choice is to have “Two Days on Creating an
Instructional Resource Room”
this special two-day inservice package is
$2,500.00 for each facilitator plus travel expenses).

What you need to provide:

·        overhead projector and screen

·        flip chart with markers

·        any materials that you wish to provide to your attendees can be
