Overview

The Learning Network® is a dynamic organization comprised of staff developers, educators, and
authors who work together to provide professional
development experiences that result in increased
student achievement and school improvement.

Through support from The Learning Network®,
schools and districts throughout the United States
have dramatically improved the performance of their
students and staff, developing effective literacy
coaches, making Adequate Yearly Progress and
 successfully meeting state standards.

As part of The Learning Network®, your school or
district receives training and support from highly
qualified staff developers, who previously served as
master teachers and effective administrators and
now will be focused on helping you achieve your
goals.

Keys to Success
The Learning Network® provides you with a unique
sitebased, job-embedded staff development process,
which can be enhanced by inservices during the school
year and supplemental learning experiences during the
summer. TLN schools receive the following combination
of services and support that contribute to school
success:

Experienced staff developers work directly with
educators right in their schools and classrooms
on a regular basis.

Proven techniques are refined and applied in the
classroom with your staff over time, while continued
contact with the same staff developer provides
ongoing support and growth
.

This site-based coaching improves performance and
builds capacity, developing leadership teams comprised of administrators and teacher leaders who can continue to train and support their colleagues. Your staff developer first helps the school’s leaders become more effective educators and administrators, and then helps them become effective trainers of other staff members.

Formative and summative assessment data is used to plan effective instruction that meets the needs of all students. Based on the Teaching and Learning Cycle shown to the left, your educators learn to evaluate students’ performance in order to inform their instruction and monitor progress.

Research-based literacy instruction develops knowledge and skills that are also used successfully in the content areas. An effective and enjoyable learning process enables students to read and write well, and then apply what they have learned in new situations.

Comprehensive Solutions
The Learning Network®’s job-embedded staff development process can be supplemented by customized inservice that meets the specific needs of your staff. In addition, summer literacy institutes and an annual conference provide further opportunities to learn and work with caring educators focused on extending and enhancing the school improvement process.
