Want to know more about
Brian Cambourne?

For more than 30 years Australian educator Brian Cambourne has been a teacher, researcher, and advocate for effective literacy teaching and learning.

Much of his research has been conducted in a naturalistic mode by observing in classrooms.  That research led to the publication in 1988 of The Whole Story: Natural Learning and the acquisition of Literacy in the Classroom.  In this seminal work, Brian articulated a set of conditions for learning that has influenced the way a generation of teachers looks at the classroom environment.

Brian Cambourne was given the inaugural Garth Boomer Award, he was the second Australian to be inducted into the International Reading Association’s Reading Hall of Fame, and he has been awarded the Outstanding Educator in Language Arts by the National Council of Teachers of English.
