The Learning Network
NWREL Catalog of School Reform Models
The Learning Network has been accepted for inclusion in the Catalog of School
Reform Models, published by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL).
The Catalog of School Reform Models is a national directory of comprehensive school
reform models that have been demonstrated to possess:
- a theory based on research,
- evidence of effectiveness, and
- replicability among schools in a diverse range of settings.
School reform models listed on the CSRD legislation were automatically included in the
first edition of the Catalog. Models added subsequently, such as The Learning Network,
were required to provide documentation of their ability to meet the above criteria set by
the U.S. Department of Education. Applications were evaluated by researchers in the
regional laboratory system. The Comprehensive School Reform Demonstration (CSRD) Program
is designed to provide financial incentives for schools to
implement comprehensive school reform programs that are based
on reliable research and effective practices, and include an
emphasis on basic academics and parental involvement.-U.S. Department of Education,
CSRD in the Field: An Early ReportTo find out more about CSRD, visit the U.S. Department of Education's CSRD website.
The Learning Network is currently being implemented in 150 schools across the country.
Schools supported by The Learning Network were among the first in the nation to receive
funding under the CSRD legislation. A number of schools will finance their school reform
efforts with successfully written CSRD grant proposals. Some of these schools are:
